In our new A day in the life of... series we’re going behind the scenes at ActionZero HQ to introduce the people that make our brand tick.
We’re kicking off with our Operation Analyst and E-Learning Designer, Ellen Collins. Here she gives an insight into her background, her role and what she enjoys about the lifechanging work we do.
Over to you, Ellen…
Can you tell us a little bit about your role?
My role in ActionZero requires me to work in both the operations and marketing side of the company. I’m proud to bring my experience in design and digital marketing to ActionZero as we strive towards a net-zero future.
My role is varied, from developing CRM reports and building e-learning modules to brand development and animation. One of my biggest passions is using my skill set to make complex subjects easy to understand.
How long have you worked with ActionZero?
I have been working with ActionZero since April 2021.
What education/background do you have that helped you get your position?
I received my B(Sc) Honours in Digital Animation Production in 2018 from LSAD. Since graduating, I have worked as a freelancer in animation, illustration, and graphic design. Some previous projects I have been involved in are children’s animation shows, 2D e-learning games, and comics.
Animation and design may seem out of place in a company that specialises in engineering but having an outstanding marketing campaign can enhance any consumer product to the next level.
What are 5 daily tasks you do as an Operation Analyst and E-Learning Designer?
- Client meetings
- Research and strategy
- Problem solving
- Wireframes, frameworks, mood boards and design execution
- Presentations and gathering data and feedback
What is your favourite part about your role?
I love the fact that every day is different, and it keeps me on my toes and allows me to get creative when finding a solution to any specific challenge. My role in the company has allows me to expand my knowledge and skillset by being involved in operations and marketing.
Thankfully, I also get to work with a great team. Everyone is passionate about the work we do. It may sound like a cliché, but that kind of atmosphere is infectious and pushes us to work harder because we all believe in the end results. They are also very supportive of diversity.
If you could describe your job in 3 words, what would they be?
Creative, engaging, and rewarding
What is a skill or habit that has helped you in your current role?
My established skills in the Adobe Creative suite have come in handy with helping develop e-learning modules about energy awareness for AZ clients and marketing campaigns about the EscoPod.
I also feel that my ability to take the initiative and adapt to my environment has helped me. There have been many projects that I have been involved in that were a learning curve for me because my work background has mostly been design focused.
However, while I may not always know the answer to a problem presented to me immediately, I will do my best to research it and figure it out without needing much guidance.
What has surprised you about this position?
I appreciate how much trust and responsibility the company is willing to give its employees.
Management has been very open to our ideas on expanding our roles and improving projects in different departments throughout the company. It’s also inspiring to be part of climate action for the planet.
How would you describe the company culture?
AZ is a company with a clear mission and core values.
They have worked hard to develop a culture that wants to make a difference in the world and invest in the professional growth of its staff. I feel like they want to hear about their employee’s perspectives and celebrate their successes.
